Gears of War: Reloaded Remaster Set for August 26 Release on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation

Microsoft has unveiled Gears of War: Reloaded, a remastered version of the iconic 2006 third-person shooter, slated for release on August 26, 2025, across Xbox Series X|S, PC, and, for the first time, PlayStation 5. This definitive edition, developed by The Coalition with support from Sumo Interactive and Disbelief, brings enhanced visuals, audio, and gameplay to celebrate the franchise’s upcoming 20th anniversary in 2026.

Key Features and Improvements

Gears of War: Reloaded includes all content from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, encompassing the base game, a bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps, modes, and unlockable characters and cosmetics. The remaster boasts:

  • 4K Resolution and High Frame Rates: Enjoy 60 FPS in the Campaign and up to 120 FPS in multiplayer, with support for HDR, Dolby Vision, and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos.
  • Cross-Play and Cross-Progression: Play with friends across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation without a Microsoft account, though signing in enables full cross-platform functionality, including progress carryover and friend invites.
  • No Loading Screens: The Campaign offers seamless transitions between levels.
  • Enhanced Visuals: Features remastered textures, improved shadows, reflections, and super-resolution with better anti-aliasing.

Multiplayer and Co-op

The game is designed for shared experiences, supporting two-player co-op in the Campaign and up to eight players in Versus Multiplayer. Cross-play ensures seamless squad-ups across platforms, making it accessible to a wider audience.

Pricing and Availability

Priced at $39.99, Gears of War: Reloaded will launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. It will be available day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Players who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before May 5, 2025, are eligible for a free upgrade, with codes delivered via Xbox direct messages before launch.

A Milestone for the Franchise

“As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together,” said Mike Crump, Studio Head at The Coalition. “With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever.”

This release marks a significant moment, bringing the Gears of War series to PlayStation and setting the stage for the upcoming prequel, Gears of War: E-Day. The remaster aims to introduce new players to the gritty world of Delta Squad while offering longtime fans a polished, modern experience.
